Meet your 2017 Ripple Awards Judges
The Love Gala organization has called upon seven (7) top caliber practitioners and advocates to screen and select the ten (10) most outstanding Ripplers, or the game-changers in the HIV community, as the pioneer honorees of the most prestigious HIV advocacy awards –The Ripple Awards.
In support of the World AIDS Day, the Ripple Awards will be conducted during the Love Gala , Asia’s premier charity and awards ceremony, on 1 December 2017 at the BGC Arts Center in Taguig City.
Below are the sectoral panel of judges who evaluated the nomination submissions and identified the roster of awardees:

Dir. Eamonn Murphy
Director, Regional Support Team for Asia and the Pacific, UNAIDS
Murphy leads and facilitates a joint United Nations Response to support countries and their HIV programs, and supports them in achieving the goals outlined in the 2016 United Nations Political Declaration on Ending AIDS. Previously, as UNAIDS country director to Myanmar and Vietnam, he helped both countries significantly scale up health services, create enabling environments, and overcome legislative obstacles to response.
Dr. Frits van Griensven
Senior advisor for HIV prevention with the Thai Red Cross Research Center and director of the Tangerine Clinic for Gender and Immunity, both based in Bangkok, Thailand
Griensven helps lead policy and planning on HIV prevention research, prevention, and treatment services in the said institutions. He has 30 years of experience in HIV research and prevention and has authored or co-authored 250 scientific publications in the field of HIV-AIDS. He holds an academic position with the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Medicine, University of California in the US.
Advocacy and marketing manager for Asia Bureau at the AIDS Healthcare Foundation
Ko helps develop networks and raise awareness for the world's largest AIDS organization that provides medical care and other services to more than 350,000 people in 36 countries, including Asia.
Rhodora Palomar - Fresnedi
Executive Director of Center for Growing and Giving Foundation
Also, the Founder and Managing Director of Except One Pte Ltd. in Singapore. Prior to that post, she was the executive director of Unilab Foundation, Inc., where she led Project Inclusion, which championed wider employment opportunities for differently abled persons. For her efforts, she won the SENIA Advocacy Award in 2017. Previously she was the global diversity head at Unilever.
Dr. Gundo Aurel Weiler
World Health Organization representative to the Philippines
Before moving to the Philippines, he served, among others, as programme director of the Global HIV and Hepatitis Programmes at WHO Headquarters. Dr. Weiler has engaged in clinical work, research, and non-government organizations in Germany, France, Australia, and the Philippines. He trained as a physician at the Humboldt University at Berlin, was awarded a doctorate in medical sociology by the Free University Berlin, and holds a Diploma in Health Systems Management by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Ronivin G. Pagtakhan
Executive Director, LoveYourself Inc.
The executive director and one of the founders of LoveYourself, Inc., which is the leading volunteer-driven advocacy group in the Philippines that provides HIV education, testing, and treatment services. Apart from being a topnotcher in the 2004 nursing board exam, Pagtakhan was honored as one of the 10 Ten Outstanding Young Men and Women awardees in 2016 for his youth leadership accomplishments, and won Nurse of the Year at the Shorty Awards for his online health education efforts, among other recognitions he has.
Mayor Lani Cayetano
Taguig City mayor and chair of the League of Cities in the Philippines.
Cayetano has led her city and other city mayors in increasing access to HIV testing services, and signing a city HIV resolution to help bolster the local and national response to the epidemic in the Philippines.
