There are times when stress comes to people in crisis situations when they lack access to information where they may avail services they need to address their present, urgent concerns. This is why some organizations uses networking as their mode of intervention.
Kagay-an PLUS (Preserving Life, Uniting Society) Inc. is a non-government organization located in Cagayan de Oro (CDO). It advocates for Human Rights and HIV and AIDS awareness in CDO and in Northern Mindanao. It is recognized by the Department of Health Region 10, and a Community-based organization partner of their City Health Office and an active member of the CDO Local AIDS Council.
It’s strength is found in networking. They gather their community’s human, financial and social resources. Being a promising model of service delivery network, Kagay-an Plus, Inc. is able to deliver the following health services: HIV and AIDS Education, Discussion on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression Conduct of STI, HIV & AIDS Peer Education Training, Community-based Screening for HIV, Mobile HIV Screening, distribution of free condoms and water-based lubricants and referral to treatment facilities.
They are able to sustain a multi-level network with active partnerships with local, national and global organizations. They have worked with the Philippine Non-government Organization Council, Global Fund, YPeer, Save the Children, AIDS Society of the Philippines, Association of the South-East Asian Nation and The Loveyourself, Inc.
Networking is effective if there is an efficient and easy referral system. Kagay-an PLUS is fueled with trust. It ensures that the trust they earned from their current partners is upheld by its members and volunteers. This way, they maintain partnership and are able to assist clients to avail the right services from the right partner.
