Leading the way towards an inclusive, empowering, and engaged community, Oscar Obenza Jr. serves as the Chairperson of the Olympus Society of Davao, Inc. (OSDI). On top of his commitment to uphold human rights and promote a gender-fair society, Obenza is also a trailblazer in the HIV and AIDS advocacy.
Through his organization, Oscar spearheads programs and mobilizes his community towards active participation in the cause. OSDI is one of the Community-based Organizations (CBO) recognized by the Department of Health (DOH) region 11. The organization earned this recognition though its active participation in city activities not only on HIV and AIDS, but also on LGBT+ rights and welfare.
OSDI, in coordination with other CBOs and LGBT+ Community groups, now provides free services including HIV counseling and screening, with its community center operating Mondays thru Sundays.
True to its objectives, OSDI continues to mobilize Davao City both in the advocacies of HIV and AIDS awareness and in the LBGT+ rights and welfare. It stands in the frontline of the First LGBT coalition in Davao City, which has more than 40 participating LBGT Community Groups to date. Further, OSDI continues to engage and train more peer educators and HIV counselors through its partnership with DOH.
It is Obenza’s immersion to the advocacy and the community it serves that inspires him to do more in the field. Aside from his work in OSDI, Oscar Obenza Jr. also serves as Site Implementing Officer for the Global Fund Project for HIV and AIDS. Obenza is also Chair to the LGBT Coalition of Davao City.
